We love our pentagrams. As witches, most of us own multiple pentagram necklaces, rings, earrings, piercings, and even tattoo our bodies with that awesome symbol of our Religion, Art, and/or Craft. 

At Inner Circle Sanctuary, we teach that the pentagram represents the elements of nature (earth, water, air, fire) in total balance governed by Spirit. Their dynamic balance is contained and amplified by the intact circle surrounding it.

Now, imagine being in the middle of the pentagram, in that still-point, surrounded by the forces of nature and the divine power of the universe. As Witches and Wiccans, that is what we strive for: To be one with the earth and feel that connection to divinity.

Inner Circle Sanctuary is a school for Witchcraft and Wicca. To us, those terms are interchangeable. We are Witches. We are Wiccan. We use the natural world and our personal power to create change in our lives according to our Will. But, we are made stronger through our connection to Divinity.

Ours is a school for hardcore academics, but our purpose is to practice magic. The heart of our teachings is magic and ritual combined. So, for most of our magical workings, we perform some kind of pentagram ritual, from the LBRP of the Golden Dawn to a full Egyptian Ritual of the Pentagram and everything in between.

There are many reasons to perform a pentagram ritual: strengthening and cleansing your aura, helping you become more confident in your magic, etc 

We like to do a pentagram ritual before our sabbat festivals because it also dispels any lingering energy or influences in our sabbat space. Our seasonal festivals are always held outdoors and in nature. So, when we go to a site, we physically clean the place of any garbage, we build our temple, and then we cleanse it spiritually using a version of the pentagram ritual.

Our sabbat rings, however, are a whole pentagram ritual on their own. We invite elemental guardians, we draw pentagrams, we invoke deity, and we do it all within a circle meant to contain and amplify Every single one of our sabbats and esbats are a pentagram ritual. You could even say that the LBRP is a condensed version of a sabbat ritual. 

The purpose of a personal pentagram ritual is to ground and center you as the column or axis around which the universe rotates. You are the center of the universe. You are the center of your world. You are the center of the natural elements.

During our potential student interviews, people talk about wanting to find ways to bring more magic into their lives. But….You are magic. You just need to acknowledge and nurture it.

One way to do that is to perform your own Ritual of the Pentagram. You could do the well-known and well-loved Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, or you could do the whole ritual including the Invoking and Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. Either way you do it, you are becoming that still-point in the middle. You are surrounded by all four elements and their rulers with the divine creative power as a brilliant white light above your head. You have entered the temple of the gods and are in the presence of divinity.

Perform your ritual every day and eventually you won’t even need to wear that pentagram jewelry you’re so fond of because you ARE the pentagram.

The LBRP Ritual

The shortcut version of the LBRP from Modern Magick: Twelve Lessons in the High Magickal Arts by Donald Michael Kraig

Step One: The Kabbalistic Cross
   1. Touch your forehead with your pointer finger. Vibrate the word Ah-Tah (Ah-tay)
   2. Point down to the earth. Vibrate the word Malkuth (Mahl-Koot)
   3. Touch your right shoulder. Vibrate the word Vih-G’boo-Rah (Vuh geb oorah)
   4. Touch your left shoulder. Vibrate the word Vih-G’doo-Lah (Vuh ged ulaah)
   5. Fold hands at your chest. Vibrate the word Lih-Oh-Lam. Ah-men. (Lee oh lem, ah men)

Step Two: The Pentagrams
   1. Go the east quarter of your space and face the east. Draw the banishing pentagram of Earth in the air before you. Point to the center of it and vibrate the god name Yud-Heh-Vahv-Heh (Yod hey vawv hey)
   2. Draw a line connecting to the south quarter of your space so you are now facing south. Draw the banishing pentagram of Earth in the air before you. Point to the center of it and vibrate the god name Ah-Doh-Nye. (aww doe nye)
   3. Draw a line connecting to the west quarter of your space so you are now facing west. Draw the banishing pentagram of Earth in the air before you. Point to the center of it and vibrate the god name Eh-Heh-Yeh (Eh hay yay)
   4. Draw a line connecting to the north quarter of your space so you are now facing north. Draw the banishing pentagram of Earth in the air before you. Point to the center of it and vibrate the god name Ah-Glah (aww guh law)
   5. Draw a line connecting back to the east, completing the circle. Return to center of your space.

Step Three: Evocation of the Archangels
   1. Spread arms straight out to your sides so your body forms a cross with your palms facing forward.
   2. Say: Before me, Raphael (Rah fay el)
Behind me, Gabriel (Gahb ray el)
  On my right hand, Michael (Mih chai el)
   On my left hand, Uriel (ohr re eel)
   For about me flames the pentagram
   And within me shines the six-rayed star.

Step Four: Repeat the Kabbalistic Cross
End

To perform the Invoking Pentagram Ritual, you would draw an invoking pentagram of earth instead of a dismissing pentagram of earth. 

This ritual can be done to start your day or end it. It can and should be done before any magical or ritual work like spells, meditations, studying, sabbats, and esbats.
