Flowers for October include Calendula and Cosmos. Here is some information on Calendula. Calendula officinalis is the official name of this colorful flowering plant otherwise known as Marigold. Some other folk names are: Bride of the Sun, Calendula, Spousa Solis, and Summer’s Bride. Calendula are masculine and the Sun is the planet that rules this beautiful plant. They are associated with the element of Fire and used in protection spells, legal matters and prophetic dreams, healing, stability, consecration and spiritual growth. Growing Calendula in your garden is fairly easy and will attract butterflies. They do well in full sun with well drained soil, but not in hot summer temperatures, so some shade may be needed if you live in the desert. The exact origins of Calendula have been lost, but is believed to have been used in Ancient Greece and Egypt as a beautiful dye, along with several other uses. ![]() Some magical uses include:
