Happy birthday to Ed Fitch, born on April 29, 1937 in Roxboro, North Carolina. He currently lives and still practices in Austin, Texas.
He is an occult author whose titles include A Grimoire of Shadows, The Rites of Odin, and Magical Rites from the Crystal Well.
In 1967 he was initiated into the Gardnerian tradition of Wicca by Raymond and Rosemary Buckland. Since then, he has been a leading figure in the rise of contemporary Wicca.
In the 1970s, he helped organize the Covenant of the Goddess, which is an international umbrella organization representing Pagans.
Along with Joseph Wilson and Thomas Giles, he co-created “The Pagan Way,” which is an outer-court tradition of Neo-Pagansim. The rituals and lore which made up the background of this tradition came from Fitch’s book “A Grimoire of Shadows.” With this new tradition, they hoped to make Wicca more accessible to people without the strict rules and timelines of traditional Gardnerian covens. It was meant to be a place for people newly interested in Wicca and also for those who just wanted to be a part of Pagan ceremonies.
