Lucifer (1890) by Franz Stuck https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satan#/media/File:1-Luzifer.jpg LUCIFER By Lord Tanys My first experience with Lucifer was on my Mother’s High School friend’s farm in Central Pennsylvania. It was a beautiful place. And if you know anything about PA, or have been there, you know how spooky it can be, and how haunted it is! But, really this was even more frightening- because Lucifer was a goose. Canada goose attack - Kanadagans Holperdorp https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kanadagans_Holperdorp.jpg Maybe 2 or 3 of you out there are now reliving your own mean-ass goose experience from your childhood. If you never met an angry white farm goose when you were a child, let me just say they hiss, stand as tall as you, spread their wings to look as if they would swallow you up, and while the grownups laugh, you run as fast and as far as possible from this daytime nightmare. At least I did. Despite that traumatic first experience with a Lucifer, I am happy to say that “I Love Lucifer” and Inner Circle Sanctuary has honored Him in our Lughnasadh Sabbat since at least 1995, when we were Temple of the Inner Circle. So who is Lucifer? This Wikipedia article is a good place to start https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer to disabuse yourself of the confused misinterpretations of the Christian bible and politically based characterizations of the Bringer of Light we have all been subjected to. The word means Bringer of Light, which is of course, a very noble pursuit. Only someone or a group of the same would want to keep us (humankind) in the dark, unwise, or unknowing- someone who clearly wants to control our thoughts and deeds. Ring a bell? Of course rebellion is frightening to those who seek earthly control through power over people. Lucifer, like Prometheus and Loki, suffer still the demonization of institutions political and “spiritual” that aim to suppress Humankind’s evolution. As Aleister Crowley wrote in his Hymn to Lucifer, “The Key of Joy is disobedience.” Inner Circle Sanctuary celebrates Lucifer as the Sun, in line with the cosmogony found in the book “Aradia, or The Gospel Of The Witches” by Charles Leland Godfrey, first published in 1899, during every Great Rite. In this groundbreaking and still very relevant book, Diana the Moon created everything in the Universe with the consent of the fathers and mothers of the Beginning, by chasing and ultimately seducing Her beautiful brother Lucifer the Sun. But wait, there’s more. Lady Morgana’s teachings to her Temple of the Inner Circle and Inner Circle Sanctuary Witchlings and Witches involved our own cosmogony, which included Lucifer being a creator of our bodies as vehicles for exoterra souls desirous of experience on this plane. And of course, He so loved us that He chose to stay and nurture us, rather than return to any celestial home. Lady Morgana always referred to Him as Lucifer the scientist. Because don’t we all want Shin in the midst of our YHVH? So it should be no surprise that our Lughnasadh Sabbat specifically honors Him. Lux, Lugh, Lucifer. Sounds like an excellent chant or mantra. It’s all about light and enlightenment, so get some! So at this point of the Wheel of the Years, halfway between Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox, eat lots of bread to celebrate the first harvest of Lammas, commemorate Lugh, and celebrate Lucifer by listening to: *Black Sabbath’s N.I.B. (Nativity In Black, but you knew that) *The Rolling Stones’ Sympathy For The Devil *and last but not least, Lucifer Rising by a true Pagan Witch band Inkubus Sukkubus, whose decades of Magical music can be purchased here: http://www.inkubussukkubus.com/shop.htm If anyone is interested in further reading about Lucifer (to further one’s quest for enlightenment) here are some suggestions: This looks to be a very pretty edition of the classic Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches written by Leland, from Troy Books. LUCIFER: Princeps by Peter Grey is an incredibly well researched book that untangles the misinformation about Lucifer, and mistranslation of references to Him, whilst casting Him in a very realistic light, and prepares us for an (hopefully soon) upcoming book of Praxis. The Luminous Stone is a collection of essays from authors of various Traditions, containing history, theory and some praxis. And it is still available from Three Hands Press in a beautiful hardcover edition. Follow Inner Circle Sanctuary on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram.
